Natural Family Planning charting

“I start having brown spotting for a week then I start my normal period which lasts about 5-7 more days, for a total of 11-14 days from brown spotting to finishing my period… how would I chart my cycle for natural family planning? Would my start date be when I start spotting or not till I actually have red blood???”

A: “Natural Family Planning doesn’t deal with the time span between bleeding, but by observations of the body made between.

The days just before and just after ovulation are determined by checking the woman’s cervical mucus. You can also check by charting your tempertature each day with a basal body temperature thermometer. At the time of ovulation, a woman’s temperature will rise slightly.

If you still have questions or are concerned with the irregularity of your periods, we recommend you consult your physician.”
