Answer: Many oral contraceptive pills can help with managing acne. We would suggest talking to the physician that prescribed the medication to you about your concerns and consider changing the dosage or the brand to one that will meet your needs – including the skin concerns. If this does not help, the next step would be to contact a dermatologist who may be able to make better recommendations. Question: Okay, I don’t really know where to begin. I was on birth control for two years and then I stopped taking it. I have gained a ton of weight in the past 6 months or so, and my periods have been every other month. They are not regular at all, and when I do get a “period”, its extremely light and its just basically spotting. I have taken multiple pregnancy tests, and they all come back negative. I got tested for a thyroid problem a while back, and he said it was a bit high. I am just wondering if there is anything you guys can do for me, or if I should just go see a regular doctor. I do not have any health insurance, and the doctors visits can get pretty pricey, which is why I am trying to avoid going. Answer: Depending on your age, it is normal to females under the age of 25 to have an irregular menstrual cycle and experience fluctuations in weight. However, because you are not actively using a hormonal method, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with a primary care doctor and transfer your thyroid test results. Question: My friend thinks she is having a miscarriage. Today is March 4th, she got what she believed to be her period on February 20th, it stopped for two days now she has had excessively bleeding since the 22nd. She has been using marijuana and is concerned that if she seeks help at the local hospital they will get her in trouble. She already has a son and does not want to risk having him taken away. She has insurance but is not employed. Could family planning be a more secure option for health care in this situation?

Question: As of right now I do not have insurance and I am not employed. I was wondering if I would be able to come in for an exam? and what would the cost be?
Answer: The Family Planning Association works off of a sliding fee scale if a client does not have private insurance or Medicaid. The clinic will ask you how much income your household brings in and how many people are living off of that income and asses the fee for your visit. However, Family Planning can offer you services regardless of your ability to pay. Please call 352-0608 to make an appointment. Question: What forms of birth control do you have available at the clinic? I would rather not use condoms or the pill. Allergic to latex, and I have gotten pregnant on the pill. I’m 26 years old with three children, with medicaid insurance. Thank you

Question: Is it possible to get the abortion pill from your company? If it is possible, would parent consent be required?
Answer: Family Planning does not provide abortion services. We do provide all-options counseling for women who test positive for pregnancy so that they can make an informed choice. Depending on your situation you may be able to consider emergency contraception – this is a high dose of birth control pill (not the abortion pill) that a woman can take up to 3 days after having unprotected sex to help reduce her risk of getting pregnant. We do have Plan B available at Family Planning; you can also get it over the counter at most drug stores/ pharmacies at any age. If the unprotected sex was up to 5 days ago you may be able to get an IUD inserted called ParaGard. This particular birth control method works very effectively as emergency contraception if within 5 days, and can be left in for up to 10 years for continuing birth control. If these are not an option, you should consider making an appointment to see a health care provider and get a pregnancy test – to do this with Family Planning please call 440-352-0608 and hear about your options whether the test is positive or negative. If you are already positive that you are pregnant, abortion services are available in Cuyahoga County (you cannot get these services in Lake, Geauga, or Ashtabula Counties). You can make an appointment with them to discuss your options as well, however you will need consent from one parent if you are under the age of 18. Minors are able to obtain judicial court by-pass for certain circumstances, and a counselor at one of these clinics would help you with that process as well. Question: Hello. I was interested in getting a full std testing ran. I’m a bisexual woman currently in a same sex relationship. My last partner was a man and may or may not have been faithful. My partner has never been with a man but has had a larger number or partners. We would both like to get a full testing done just to know were totally safe before we start trying for kids. Do you offer that and what does it run?
Answer: Family Planning offers chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, hepatitis B and rapid HIV testing. All services, including STI testing, are offered on a sliding fee scale. Question: I switched birth controls 3 months ago and now I had my period for almost 2 weeks mid pill cycle and now I am getting it every other day. It goes away then comes back. I don’t know what it is
Answer: Break-thru-bleeding is nothing to worry about during the first three (3) months on the pill, if you change from one pill to another, if you miss a pill, or if you are late taking a pill.
